About this event

The Coalition for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (CDCE) is organizing a two-day conference to bring together a variety of creators, experts, policy makers and cultural professionals to discuss the critical issue of the future of copyright in Canada. The event is organized in partnership with ALAI Canada, the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Civil Law and the Chaire Intelligence artificielle responsable à l’échelle mondiale.

The cultural sector has been calling for a review of the Copyright Act for years. On April 7th, in the federal budget, the Canadian government announced its intention to “ensure that the Copyright Act protects all creators and copyright holders”, including “ensuring the sustainability of the educational book publishing industry, which includes fair compensation for creators and copyright holders”. How can this legislative revision redirect the current system toward its primary mission of providing protection for creators and copyright holders?

This meeting will address priority copyright issues for the cultural sector and promote discussion on changes to the law.

The event is designed to be attended in person. International guests will join the discussions virtually. It will also be possible for participants to attend some panels virtually.

Moreover, an application for recognition of 9.15 hours of mandatory continuing education has been filed with the Quebec Bar.

English and French translation will be available. Registration is required, fees are the same for virtual and in-person participation.
