The 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, to be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from February 11 to 14, 2025, will provide an opportunity for the Committee to review the recommendations developed by the Reflection Group on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in the Digital Environment.

These recommendations were made available last December. The CDCE welcomed the Reflection Group’s report with great interest and commends the outstanding quality of the work carried out.

After thoroughly reviewing the recommendations and analyzing their implications and potential impacts, the CDCE has decided to support all the recommendations put forward by the Reflection Group, with particular emphasis on Recommendation 1: Adopting an additional protocol to the Convention in the digital environment.

An additional protocol to the Convention is a highly desirable mid-term objective, but it should not overshadow the urgency of taking immediate action on multiple fronts by swiftly implementing the other recommendations.

The CDCE encourages the Parties at the upcoming IGC session to also support these recommendations.
