On August 17, 2024, the Government of Canada launched a public consultation on the operation of the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), in preparation for the first joint review of the Agreement in 2026 and to help establish priorities for the work to be undertaken in 2025, including the 5th CUSMA Free Trade Commission meeting that Canada will chair. The CDCE thanks Global Affairs Canada for holding this consultation and providing an opportunity to contribute to discussions surrounding the review of the Agreement.
In its submission, the CDCE highlighted several factors illustrating the imbalance experienced by Canadian creators and cultural enterprises compared with their U.S. counterparts, particularly in relation to the online consumption of cultural content and the need to preserve a strong and comprehensive cultural exemption.
