This report relates the discussions held during the reflection day of experts from cultural, academic and legal circles held on May 27, 2024 in Quebec. It recalls the context of the adoption of the 2005 Convention. Actors who played key roles in the advent of this convention recalled its origins, its purposes and its content. The theme of cultural diversity is then addressed. This report explains how the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions is a condition for sustainable development. The issues that the generalization of digital technology brings with regard to the diversity of cultural expressions are then addressed. In particular, the formidable challenges posed by the advent of generative artificial intelligence are related. Finally, we review the principles to put forward for an update so that the Convention remains a relevant and effective instrument.
